A bequest from a Rock Island resident will benefit eight local organizations. Today, the Rosemary Woodward Trust and Rock Island Community Foundation announced the gift of $2.1 million, and how it will help the organizations for years to come.

The calendar is packed with spring and summer events for tourists to enjoy in the Quad Cities and northwestern Illinois. This afternoon at the botanical center in Rock Island, officials from the Quad Cities and Henry County convention and visitors bureaus, plus Geneseo, Moline, and Rock Island parks departments discussed the power of tourism and previewed dozens of arts and recreation events.

 You can escape winter weather without leaving the Quad Cities. Starting today, local residents can take a trip to the beach by visiting the Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island.  Education Manager, Ellen Loechner, says this is the third year the Botanical Center has filled its Sun Garden with two tons of sand, creating a giant "Sand Island."  She says there are sand toys provided and kids can bring their own.
