Long before 9 A.M. when Rock Island County's COVID vaccination clinic opened on Tuesday, lines of cars from both directions were waiting in Milan.

This morning around 8:15, the health department announced its 1,000 doses of vaccine would run out before all the people in line received their injections.

Hundreds of healthcare workers in the Quad Cities were vaccinated against COVID-19 today.

Healthcare workers were able to stay in the safety—and warmth—of their cars while receiving the Moderna vaccine. The Rock Island County Health Department organized the drive through clinic free of charge. Janet Hill of the health department says the response has been positive.

The Quad Cities recorded its highest number of new, COVID-19 cases today at 211. The total number of cases during the pandemic has now reached 8,318.

 Today, the Rock Island County Health Department hosted a drive-thru Flu clinic. 

As nurses chased bandaids blown around by 30-mile-an-hour winds, hundreds of drivers coasted through the Greater Quad City Auto Auction to get vaccinated ahead of Flu season. By noon, the clinic had run out of children's Flu vaccine.

Moline's free COVID-19 testing center closes this weekend after 11 days and thousands of tests. The drive-up testing site is in the TaxSlayer Center parking lot, and will be in operation 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day until Sunday.

For the first time since March 21st, today Rock Island County has no new cases of COVID-19 to report.

The health department says the case total is the same as Monday at 746, with 28 deaths, and two people in the hospital. 

Now that the excitement has died down from the advent of legal recreational marijuana in Illinois, health authorities want to remind us of its hazards. The Chief Operating Officer for the Rock Island County Health Department, Janet Hill, says there are a variety of health risks.

Health authorities in the Quad Cities are trying to spread the word about the dangers of vaping. The Tobacco Free QC coalition has published a resource guide that's available to schools, parents, or anyone might consider vaping. 

Rock Island County Health Department

As measles cases continue to increase across the country, the Rock Island County Health Department is trying to make sure there's no outbreak here. It will open a weekly vaccination clinic this week, start a social media campaign, and remind school officials of the requirement that all students be vaccinated.

Following a sharp increase in the number of cases this year, the Illinois Department of Public Health has declared an outbreak of gonorrhea in Rock Island County. There've been 44 cases in the county so far this year, compared with 27 at this time last year.
