The spring session of the Illinois General Assembly was supposed to end last weekend, but now it looks like it could drag on, well into the summer.

The lobbyists will be younger than usual in Springfield on Wednesday. This year's Student Lobby Day will include students from Augustana, and 17 other private colleges around the state.

Rauner's First Budget

This week, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner presented his first budget to the General Assembly. 

A state legislator from northwestern Illinois will play a key role in the General Assembly's minimum wage debate. In the state House, Representative Mike Smiddy from Hillsdale is one of two lead sponsors of the bill - it would raise wage from the current 8-25 per hour to 11 dollars in 2019.

Thousands of workers in Illinois should earn a "livable wage," not a minimum wage. That was the message today at news conferences in the Quad Cities and around the state, organized by the Raise Illinois coalition, on the eve of the General Assembly's veto session.

Jim Wozniak has decided to gamble "big" on the fall election. Today the candidate for the Illinois House announced he's resigning from his job as an assistant state's attorney in Rock Island County.He's running as a republican in District 71 which is now represented by democrat Mike Smiddy of Hillsdale.Wozniak says he gave his two week notice to the state's attorney's office to show he's 100 per cent committed to going to Springfield. The 71st district includes parts of Rock Island, Henry, Carroll, and Whiteside counties.
