Workers at two John Deere plants in the Quad Cities will soon lose their jobs. Tuesday the company announced indefinite layoffs for about 50 production workers at the Harvester Works in East Moline, and 113 at the Davenport Works.

A new leader will soon take over at John Deere. Thursday the company announced directors have chosen John May to become Chief Executive Officer in November.

Sales rose but net income fell for John Deere during its second quarter.

Today, the company reported sales rose 6% to 11.3 billion dollars during February, March, and April.

Profits totaled $1.1 billion, compared to $1.2 billion at this time a year ago.

After ten years leading John Deere, Chair and CEO Sam Allen is still convinced the company's best days are ahead. At Wednesday's annual meeting in Moline, Illinois, shareholders elected Deere and Company's board of directors and watched a couple of videos.

Michelle O'Neill reports they also listened to a review of past performance, and how the company will meet new challenges.

A year after reporting a loss due to federal tax changes, Deere and Company reports first quarter earnings came in at the second highest level ever.

Deere says from November through January, net income totalled $498.5 million, or $1.54 per share. And sales rose 16% to $6.9 billion.

Thanks in part to a strong fourth quarter, John Deere reports solid results for its just completed fiscal year. Worldwide sales grew 17 per cent, and profits rose 8 per cent.

More than 500 nonprofits will benefit from money raised during the John Deere Classic. This morning, the tournament announced Birdies for Charity raised a total of $13.4 million. That includes an 8% bonus from the John Deere Foundation.
