For a couple of hours on Christmas Day, Dubuque will offer an alternative to football games, holiday concerts, and movie marathons. Its government access station, CityChannel, will show, "The River in Real Time," a virtual cruise of the Mississippi River.

Figge Art Museum

Some residents of eastern Iowa are now part of the permanent collection at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport. Monday it announced the purchase of "Portrait of Maquoketa," portraits of 180 city residents, by Rose Frantzen.

Hoping to become a professional troupe, the QC Theatre Workshop is holding a month-long fundraiser. Through the end of December, its accepting donations at its website so that it can put on more and better shows in the future.Artistic Director Tyson Danner says their budget is small now, so the Workshop relies on volunteers. The QC Theatre Workshop puts on 4 to 5 plays and musicals a year.  Recent shows include "A Green River" and "Red," plus the musical "Bat Boy." Danner says there is no set ticket price.

The Quad City Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its 100th year. One of its former members, Edna Mae Nagel, was there when the group started a long-standing tradition.

Remembering Bruce Carter

WVIK is mourning the loss of long-time program host, and friend, Bruce Carter. He died Monday at University Hospitals in Iowa City after a brief illness. He was 66.
