Arsenal Limits Access

Access to the Rock Island Arsenal is restricted and most employees are now working from home because of the pandemic. At the direction of the Army, only what's considered "mission essential functions" are continuing with only those who are considered "mission essential personnel."

On Arsenal Island tomorrow morning, hundreds of people will honor those who died on September 11th, 2001.

Rhys Fullerlove, Public Affairs Director for the Army Sustainment Command, says the first event will be the 9/11 Remembrance Walk early in the morning.

Money is now available for a major renovation project on Arsenal Island. Thursday Illinois US Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, and Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, announced 52 million dollars has been set aside to renovate the headquarters of the Army Sustainment Command.

Korean War Ceremony

The National Cemetery on Arsenal Island will host a wreath laying ceremony on Saturday. The Korean War Veterans Association of the Quad Cities will commemorate the 66th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice.


A Moline man has been honored by the Army for his work for the Army Sustainment Command. Last week in Washington, Michael Hutchison received the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Executive.

First Army

First Army will welcome a new leader on Monday. During an Assumption of Command Ceremony, Lieutenant General Thomas James will become the 39th commanding general.

Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony

About 200 people gathered on Arsenal Island Tuesday morning to mark the 17th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. At the 9/11 memorial, they honored the  nearly 3,000 who died in New York, Washington DC, and near Shanksville Pennsylvania.

Twitty Leaves First Army

First Army

The commanding general of First Army is leaving. On Thursday, during a "relinquishment of command ceremony" on Arsenal Island, First Army will say good-bye to Lieutenant General Stephen Twitty.


The Army and the Rock Island Arsenal are helping the Illinois National Guard prepare for summer training. This week on the island, soldiers from the guard loaded 200 vehicles onto railroad cars that will travel to Fort Polk in Louisiana.

Arsenal Gets New Garrison Commander
