Possible New School Safety Device

Flip Lok

Hoping to improve safety for students and staff, special locks were installed Monday at a school in Rock Falls.

Josh Knuth is Assistant Regional School Superintendent for Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside counties. He says Flip Loks were installed at their alternative school after winning approval from the police and fire departments, and the state board of education.

"This locking system allows us to feel more confident. It allows our staff and students to feel safer. If, heaven forbid, there was a situation where we needed to be on a lockdown, if there was an intruder, and this locking system allows us to have just another level of security for our students and staff.

He says it's easy for children or adults to "flip" the lock into place quickly, and no keys are needed. And it can be installed on inward or outward facing doors.

Flip Lok is based in Houston.
