27 years after she disappeared, police may have a new lead in the Trudy Appleby case. Tuesday morning, Moline police announced they were serving a search warrant in the 600 block of 8th Street in Colona.

Appleby was 11 years old on August 21st, 1996, when she was last seen leaving her home in Moline.

Assistance is also being provided by the East Moline and Colona police, Illinois State Police, FBI, Henry County State's Attorney, and the city of Moline's public works department.

Five years ago, police put up billboards in East Moline, asking for help in finding her. They also named a "person of interest," William Smith, but he'd died before his name was revealed. But they believe others participated in the disappearance and cover-up and are hoping they come forward to help solve the case.
