Flu Free QC In Person Again

For the first time since the pandemic began, the Genesis Foundation is planning to hold its annual Flu-Free campaign completely in person.

To kickoff the campaign, Genesis has partnered with the Qud Cities River Bandits. Elementary school children who are vaccinated at Tuesday night's game will also receive free admission.

Executive Director of Genesis Foundation Missy Gowey says she hopes tonight's game will be a "launch event," encouraging parents to register their children for when vaccinations are available at school.

"Getting to our goal is dependent on the schools and it's dependent on parents. The schools have already done their part by giving us the authorization to come back into the building, and now, truly, it's on the parents to get kids registered in time because once the nurses are in that school building they don't go back."

In the past 15 years the campaign has provided more than 100,000 free flu vaccinations.

Gowey says schools are finally allowing the campaign to be held in-person once again.

This year we hope to back into the schools like we were previously and we have gotten an excellent response from all the area school districts and we plan to be back full force.

Beginning in late October and running until November, nurses will begin to visit local elementary schools. Online consent forms can be found at https://www.genesishealth.com/giving/projects--events/flu-free-quad-cities/student-flu-vaccine-consent--release-form/
