A local meteorologist says residents should prepare for "heart attack snow." The Quad Cities National Weather Service warns a winter storm starting tonight will leave behind six to ten inches of heavy, wet snow, that will be difficult to shovel Saturday morning.
Meteorologist Andy Ervin says the Dubuque area and northern Illinois will receive the heaviest amounts of snow. And even though November has been warmer and drier than normal so far, higher than normal precipitation is expected in the next couple of weeks.
Ervin says it's been several years since the Quad Cities' winter weather has started with a heavy storm. And residents should be cautious while driving and shoveling.
He says the heaviest snow will occur late in the evening and over night, with light snow Saturday morning. Rain and slightly warmer temperatures are expected next week approaching Thanksgiving.
