Now that hospital health care workers are being vaccinated for COVID-19, other health care workers can start receiving their shots. The first large scale clinics for Scott County will be held later this week, while Rock Island County will hold its first one next week.
Amy Thoreson from the Scott County Health Department says the clinics on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be by appointment, and soon other health care providers will be notified. But it'll be a very slow process.
"Vaccine supply is very limited. It will be the biggest driver of how fast this process will work and it is something we have no control of locally. There is no set amount of vaccine that comes to Scott County each week."
And she says be patient, "we'll let you know when it's your turn."
Nita Ludwig from the Rock Island County Health Department says vaccination clinics for health care workers only, will be held on Tuesdays, starting next week, in Milan at the QC Auto Auction.
"When health care workers have been vaccinated we will move to phase 1-B and have directions from the state health department on which groups will go next. These will include residents 75 and older."
She emphasizes more details will be announced when they're available, and that we're just at the start of what she calls a "months-long marathon of vaccinations."
