A long-time teacher and coach in the Davenport schools will not be forgotten. Monday night the board of education approved naming the track at the Brady Street Stadium the "Ira Dunsworth Track."
Dunsworth worked for the district for 36 years, including serving as head coach for track and cross country at Central High School from 1965 to 1995. His teams won 15 state championships, he was named Iowa State Coach of the Year four times, and was inducted into the Iowa Track Coaches Hall of Fame in 1981.
Current athletic directors for the school district and three high schools wrote to the board, naming the track "would be an awesome way of honoring this truly amazing person." In addition they say the name "Ira Dunsworth Track would conjure up the image of how to live a life with passion, heart, and tremendous drive similar to this wonderful and devoted educator."
