Thoms Running for Illinois House

Jordan Thoms

Three candidates are now running for a seat on the Illinois House, which will be vacated by Pat Verschoore. Yesterday, a marketing and events coordinator from Rock Island, Jordan Thoms announced he's running to represent the 72nd District.

33-year-old Thoms is the second Republican to join the race. In a statement, Thoms proposes a two-year balanced budget for Illinois, audits of state agencies, and closer reviews of spending plans.

Verschoore, from Milan, represented the district for 12 years, and will retire at the end of next year. Verschoore's nephew, Moline Attorney Jeff Jacobs is seeking the Democratic nomination. Brandi McGuire, of Sherrard is also seeking the GOP nomination.

The primary will be in March.
