'Talking Art' with Brandy Vandewalle of the Skeleton Key Art & Antiques Shop

If you love original art, vintage items, antiques, and “all things handcrafted” then The Skeleton Key Art & Antiques shop in Rock Island is the place for you.  Located at 520 18th St. in Rock Island, the shop is housed within the historic building that was previously a residence and the Wheelen-Pressly funeral home. The outside space is filled with original sculptural works by John Vandewalle, and inside you will find an eclectic mix of items curated by over 80 vendors.

On the 2nd Sunday from June through October, the Skeleton Key hosts the Rock Island Artists Market.  For the fourth season, it offers locally sourced produce, original art, food and live music where you can purchase art directly from the artists who create it.  The remaining RI Artists Markets for 2019 are this Sunday, August 11, as well as September 8 and October 13.

Listen to the conversation here with Brandy Vandewalle, owner of the Skeleton Key Art & Antiques Shop about how she started her business, why the handcrafted aspect of an item is important to her, and her belief in community involvement and urban revitalization.

The Skeleton Key is open Wed-Fri from 10AM-6PM; Sat 10AM-5PM; Sun 12PM-4PM, and is closed on Mon & Tues. You can follow them on Instagram or Facebook.
