Experts from the Quad Cities and across the country will meet in Moline Friday to talk about the effects of alcohol during pregnancy. The "Action Summit on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders," or FASD, will be held at Black Hawk College.
Valerie Koster is an associate professor of nursing and co-chair of the event. She says the experts will review the latest research on how alcohol can damage the brains of fetuses, and discuss how families and schools can deal with these children after they're born.
But how much alcohol is harmful, and when during pregnancy it can cause damage, is still not well-known. Koster says that's why women are advised not to drink at all while they're pregnant.
The Summit will be held Friday at the Quad Cities campus of Black Hawk College, from 8 am until 3:30 pm.
