Student Hunger Drive Loading Day Tomorrow

Student Hunger Drive

Students from 18 local high schools have been collecting food for a month to help feed the community, and now they're ready to celebrate their hard work. Tomorrow, wraps up the 30th annual Quad Cities Student Hunger Drive.

Executive Director Liz Treiber says students have collected over 13-million meals since the Hunger Drive began. And that's been distributed to people in 22 local counties, through the River Bend Foodbank in Davenport.

Tomorrow, students will load the food they've collected onto trucks, and receive prizes for their efforts.
She says it's important for students to understand how many people go without food each day, especially since 1 in 5 hungry people in the community are under the age of 18.

The final rally is at the River Bend Foodbank from 5:30 until 7 pm. The overall total for food collected will be announced at that time.
