Special Election in Bettendorf

Some residents of Bettendorf can help fill a vacancy on the city council Tuesday. A special election will be held in the Third Ward to fill the unexpired term of Debe LaMar who died in November.

The four candidates are:

- Bill Connors, former director of community development for Bettendorf,

- Richard "Dick" Frantz, a retired machinist from the Rock Island Arsenal,

- Tom Luton, a retired teacher and former member of the school board,

- and Don Wells, a member of the city's parks and recreation board.

Two polling sites will be open - at the First Baptist Church and Bettendorf Library - and the hours will be 7 am until 8 pm.

The unexpired term ends this fall when the Third Ward seat will be up for regular election.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
