Now that the school year is about to end, it's time to prepare for the fall and what impact the pandemic might have.
Terry VandeWiele, Superintendent of the Silvis School District, says at this point she's not sure what state officials in Illinois will decide. But for now her district is planning for students to return to school starting in August.
"Our hope is that we can start in-person learning at least part time when we were supposed to go back to school. And so now we're working through all of the different logistics of how we're going to do that, how are we going to keep kids social distanced, do we have students come every other day and then the off-day they're doing e-learning with a device ?"
Thanks to some donations from local foundations, the district will have money to buy wifi hotspots for families who need them.
Since schools closed in March, junior high students have used their Chromebooks for online lessons, while younger students have used a combination of lesson packets distributed by teachers and working lessons on the district's webpage.
