After months of free rides, Davenport CitiBus and Bettendrof Transit will resume fare collection on Monday, Aug. 3.
Nicole Gleason from Davenport Public Works says that fare collection stopped in mid-March to ensure driver safety.
"We have gotten plexiglass enclosures for the drivers. That was one of the reasons we had suspended the fare collection, and had the passengers entering from the back... but since then we have installed plexiglass protection around all the drivers."
Gleason says ridership is down 35% overall, with students making up 10% of that number.
Only 12 to 14 passengers will be allowed on the bus, and face masks are encouraged.
