A long career in local government is about to end. Today, Scott County Administrator Dee Bruemmer announced she will retire next spring.
Sam Dunklau reports she's worked in public administration for 34 years in the Quad Cities.
Summary
In 1981, Dee Bruemmer got a job in Davenport as assistant to the city administrator. Eleven years later, she added Public Works Director to her title. When she left in 2008, Scott County hired her as administrator.
Bruemmer says one of the most important aspects of her current job is working with department heads to improve mental health programs, especially for kids.
Bruemmer is also proud of introducing health insurance for inmates at the Scott County Jail. By law, counties are required to provide medical care for prisoners because their Medicare and Medicaid coverage is suspended.
Bruemmer is 60-years-old now, and wants to retire so she can spend more time with her grandchildren. She also plans to stay in the Quad Cities and continue her volunteer work.
