Sam's Club Closure Will Cost 150 Their Jobs

Sam's Club

Sam's Club in Moline will close later this month, putting about 150 people out of work. It's one of 63 stores across the country Walmart Stores plans to close this month.

Michelle O'Neill reports.

Spokeswoman Anne Hatfield, says Sam's Club is a membership organization. So the company knows how members shop, what they want, and where. Since the retail market has been changing rapidly, she says Walmart needed to right-size the number of Sam's Club stores it operates.

Employees at the Sam's Club in Moline will work for another two weeks. Then Hatfield says they'll continue to get paid for another two months. They'll also receive wage increases and bonuses that Walmart announced today.

At least some of the workers will be able to transfer to positions at other Sam's Club or Walmart stores. Hatfield says the Davenport Sam's Club is not on the list of stores to be closed.

Officially, Michelle's title for 28 years was WVIK News Editor. She did everything there is to do in the newsroom and whatever was needed around the radio station. She also served as Acting News Director from September 2023 - January 2024.
