St. Ambrose University has hired a new Director of Athletics. Mike Holmes is currently the Athletic Director at a private catholic university in Steubenville, Ohio. Now, the native Iowan is coming home in July to take the helm of athletic programs at St. Ambrose.
Holmes is a graduate of the Sports Psychology program at Iowa State University, and will replace Ray Shovlain, who has held the position since 1994. Shovlain will continue to lead the men's basketball team, a position he has held even longer.
Before St. Ambrose, Holmes worked at University of Maine and Franciscan University in Ohio. St. Ambrose president Sister Joan Lescinski says, "Mike brings a strong understanding of our faith based traditions and our social justice mission."
