A shelter for those struggling with HIV and AIDS will reopen in Rock Island.
De La Cerda House is a local nonprofit that provides transitional housing for people who are homeless and living with HIV and AIDS.
Robb's House, named after local AIDS activist Robb Dussliere, opened in 1996. Dussliere died just three weeks before it opened. But it had to close last year, after more than 20 years, for repairs.
Wednesday, October 9th, a ribbon-cutting will mark the house's official reopening. It can house up to five people, who are expected to stay no more than 6 months, as well as staff that help get residents prepared to live on their own.
De La Cerda House has two other properties in Rock Island, including one opened this year for families with a member diagnosed with HIV.
