Rivers Rising in the QC and Eastern Iowa

Credit National Weather Service
Mississppi River in the QC as of mid-morning Tuesday.

The Mississippi River has nearly reached flood stage in the Quad Cities. As of Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service says it was just below that benchmark level, and it's now expected to continue rising to two feet over flood stage by Saturday night and Sunday.

At that level, the river affects River Drive in Moline in the 47-hundred block, covers most of LeClaire Park in Davenport, and begins to reach the flood gates in downtown Rock Island, in Schwiebert Riverfront Park.

In Dubuque, the Mississippi has reached flood stage, and will crest 1 foot higher on Friday.

Today the Wapsipinicon River is one foot over flood stage in DeWitt. The forecast calls for a crest by Saturday morning at 2 1/2 feet over flood stage. That's still nearly a foot below the record set in July of 2014.

The Cedar River is cresting today in Cedar Rapids at 10 feet over flood stage - and as high as that may seem, it's still far below the record set in 2008 of 19 feet over flood stage.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
