River Beginning to Fall in QC

National Weather Service
Friday afternoon in the Quad Cities

We shouldn't get our hopes up too much, but the Mississippi River has started to fall in the Quad Cities. After setting a new all-time record crest on Thursday at 7.7 feet over flood stage, the river has dropped two-tenths of a foot.

It's not much but at least it's going in the right direction.

The Mississippi has dropped one foot in Dubuque since Tuesday, and dropped half a foot since Tuesday at Fulton.

And at Muscatine Friday afternoon, the river is cresting at 8.3 feet over flood stage.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
