R.I. Schools Provide Meals To Go

Even though the schools are closed, the Rock Island School District has started handing out meals to students. Spokeswoman Holly Sparkman says drive through meal pick is being held at seven locations, Monday and Thursday. Everyone that goes through the line will pick up enough food for three days.

"We want to make sure that we can still provide our families with those meals even though school is closed at the moment."
Students and families have been notified using robo-calls, and the information is also available on the school district's website.

And she credits district staff for their hard work during this public health crisis.

"We have also been logistically doing things with groups of ten or less, keeping in mind that we need to protect everybody while this public health emergency is going on."

Sparkman says teachers have also created e-learning packets for students to take home when they pick up their meals, so they have something to do while the schools are closed.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
