After a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Quad Cities 4th of July fireworks will return. Red, White, and Boom is set for Saturday July 3rd, on the Mississippi River between Rock Island and Davenport.
Organizing Committee Chair Ken Croken says it's even more important than ever this year because of last summer's cancellation.
"We're just really looking forward to restoring what has become the keystone event of the Quad Cities' summer and that's Red, White, and Boom."
To promote safety and social distancing, there'll be more viewing areas on both sides of the river.
Croken says Red, White, and Boom was first organized in 2004, and an important goal each year is public safety.
"Every year we see a rash of fires and injuries and general mayhem that can all be avoided if people will simply allow the professionals. And we do hire a highly-qualified group from Chicago to come in and stage our fireworks."
More than 4,500 pounds of fireworks will be used, and fired from two barges in the river.
