Thanks to the local option sales tax, the Moline School District has some money to spend on renovations. Monday night the board of education approved projects totaling more than 22 million dollars.
Chief Financial Officer, Dave McDermott, says most of the money will be spent at Moline High School - including 15 million dollars for heating and electrical updates, plus for the first time, air conditioning.
"In addition, we formalized the approval of the Bartlett Performing Arts Center for the district's 3 million dollar share out of the total project - with the rest coming from the Bartlett Family Trust."
The district will also spend a lot of money at Franklin Elementary, 2.5 million dollars, in addition to what the insurance company will pay for damage caused by a fire in September.
"Currently the building does not have air conditioning, but since the hall ceiling tile had to be removed, there's some cost efficiencies there the district wants to use, including replacing the original boiler sytem as well as putting a sprinkler system in the building."
McDermott says the amount of the Moline School District's claim to the insurance company for the September fire has not yet been finalized.
Other projects in the district next year will include new lights and re-surfaced parking lots.
