As it prepares to start a new season, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra has decided to keep working with its music director and conductor. This week, the QCSO extended the contract for Mark Russell Smith, through the 2020 season.

Smith is currently serving his ninth season with the symphony. The Board of Trustees president, Sue Honsey, says in a statement, "Although not a local resident, he has become a recognizable face in the Quad Cities community over the past eight years."

Smith lives in Minneapolis, where he also serves as the Artistic Director of Orchestra Studies at the University of Minnesota.

Smith will open the Quad City Orchestra's new season on Saturday, at the Adler Theatre in Davenport.
