QC Health Care Officials Prepare for Coronavirus

You can help local health departments, hospitals, and doctors prevent the spread of the coronavirus, along with other types of the flu.

This morning, Genesis, Unity Point Trinity, and the Rock Island and Scott county health departments took nearly an hour to provide accurate information about COVID-19.

Michelle O'Neill reports in the first of a series of coronavirus stories.

Currently, there are no reported cases of COVID-19 in the Quad Cities.

Dr. Louis Katz, from the Scott County Health Department, says the coronavirus is spread by large droplets, what he calls, "chunks." They're too big to linger in the air for very long. He says within minutes, spray from a cough or sneeze falls and lands on surfaces where people can pick it up by touch.

The key is to remember the "Three C's," clean, cover, and contain.

In other words, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds and do it frequently.

Cough and sneeze into a Kleenex or your elbow.

And stay home if you're sick.

Community Health Care and the Quad City Health Initiative are also part of the local COVID-19 response team.

More information is available on the county health departments' websites, SCHD and RICHD.

In addition, try the CDC website, And John Hopkins University website frequently updates the number of cases, according to Dr. Katz.
