Public Hearing for Possible Water Rate Hike

State officials want to hear what residents of the Iowa Quad Cities think about a possible increase in the cost of water. Wednesday night the Iowa Utilities Board will hold a "customer comment hearing" in Davenport on the rate hike requested by Iowa-American Water.

It begins at 5:30 pm at the River Center.

In August, the company filed a request for an overall increase of nine per cent, including a 14  per cent increase in rates for residential customers.

The board held a public hearing in Clinton last week and after Wednesday night, will hold one more hearing, virtual only, next week (10/28).

The possible increase would affect 10,000 customers of Iowa-American Water in Clinton and 53,000 in the Iowa Quad Cities.

The utilities board has up to ten months to make a decision.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
