Public Art for Downtown Moline

A consultant from Ohio will help develop a plan to add art to downtown Moline. This week, Renew Moline hired the firm Designing Local which has done similar work for other cities in several states.

Renew President and CEO Alexandra Elias says there'll be opportunities for local residents to attend workshops and make suggestions.

"So the first thing the plan will do is identify what we already have. And then identify ways that we can maximize that through sculpture, through mural, through many other different categories of public art that will really enliven our downtown."

She hopes a draft plan can be ready by next summer, with final approval by the Moline city council next fall.

Initial support for the public art master plan for downtown comes from a 65,000 dollar grant from the Moline Foundation.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
