A woman who sued Davenport claiming she was beaten by a police officer may settle the case out of court.

Michelle O'Neill reports Brandie Redell filed the federal lawsuit after she was injured during an arrest.

Summary

After BrandieRedell was caught shoplifting at North Park Mall, video shows her sitting in a small office being questioned by police. Officer Scott Crow is seen pushing her down the floor. Officer Vincent Jacobsen joins him in the struggle, and Crow is seen hitting her with his fists a few times.

Later, Redell pleaded guilty to theft, but a charge of assaulting an officer was dropped. And Davenport's police chief disciplined Crow and Jacobsen for violating department policy.

In the suit, Redell accused the city and the officers of violating her civil rights and causing her injuries. But the federal court canceled the trial last month, and settlement documents must be filed by next week.

Davenport's city attorney proposed a settlement of 15,000 dollars and up to 30,000 in attorneys fees.
