Davenport may spend nearly half a million dollars to restore just a part of its riverfront that was damaged by the long, long flood. Tuesday night, aldermen will discuss replacing the grass in LeClaire Park, between Modern Woodmen Park and the roller dam.
Chad Dyson, Director of Parks and Recreation, says the grass died as a result of the long duration of the flood, but also due to the multiple crests.
"Earlier in the spring we did have the river recede enough to where the turf came out of dormancy. But when the river came back up, that's essentially when it was killed off."
Replacing 379,000 square feet will cost an estimated 475,000 dollars.
Dyson hopes a contractor can be hired by later this month, then the restoration would take two to four weeks. And that means some late summer concerts and other events, including the Riverfront Pops, might be affected.
