Planning the Future of Downtown Rock Island

Oct 13, 2014

Residents of Rock Island can help plan the future of their downtown. Tuesday night the city will hold a public meeting to help a consultant study how to revitalize the area from 13th to 24th Streets, and between the river and 5th Avenue.

Urban planner, Brandy Howe, says the city and consultant have set up a website for the project where people can take a survey about the downtown, and use an inter-active map.

After Tuesday night's meeting, Howe says the consultant will launch a new feature on the project website where people, including residents and businesses, can comment on the plans, and react to other people's comments.

She expects there will be two more community meetings - in December and February, and that the new plan for downtown Rock Island will be completed by about March or April.

The Tuesday meeting begins at 7 pm at the Establishment Theater.
