One Last Push for Votes from Iowa Republicans

Marianna Bacallao, WVIK News

With one day left in the campaign, Iowa US Sen. Joni Ernst, Gov. Kim Reynolds, and Congressional Candidate Mariannette Miller-Meeks are reaching out to voters one last time.

For their last visit to the Quad Cities, Iowa Republicans held a more intimate gathering at the Davenport Municipal Airport, with just 20 constituents. Miller-Meeks, who's running for Iowa's Second Congressional District against Democrat Rita Hart, says in-person campaign events have been tricky because of the pandemic, but not impossible. For larger events, she says they've been checking temperatures at the door.

"And we emphasize people to wear a mask, to do handwashing, and not touch their face. But we hear the same thing, I mean, Iowa is a retail politics state. They're used to having access to their elected leaders. I mean, my sister from Connecticut couldn't believe it when I'm introducing her to our governor of our state."

Gov. Kim Reynolds is not on the ballot this year, but she's campaigning for other Republicans, like Sen. Joni Ernst.

Ernst plans to vote in-person tomorrow in her home town of Red Oak.

"I'll just be surrounded by my family, my friends, and then, of course, great supporters from all across the state of Iowa."

"And I count myself as one of those friends," Reynolds says. "So, I will be in Des Moines cheering Joni on right through the election results, and I'm predicting we're going to have a pretty good night that night."

Ernst's opponent, Democrat Theresa Greenfield campaigned in Dubuque this morning one day after President Donald Trump held a campaign rally at the Dubuque Airport.
