Officer Involved Shooting in Bettendorf

A Bettendorf man is hospitalized after being shot by police Monday night. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation identifies him as 19 year old Joshua Price, and Tuesday afternoon reported he's being treated at University Hospitals in Iowa City for what's considered non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the DCI, Bettendorf officers responded to a report of a disturbance at 11:30 Monday night at the Home Depot store on Middle Road, and shot a man.

At first, it was reported the suspect was carrying a handgun but it turns out he had a soft-air gun that looks very similar to a handgun. And the DCI says the man was presenting what it calls "suicidal tendencies" when confronted by police.

No one else was injured, and the Bettendorf officer is now on administrative leave.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
