Officer Involved Fatal Shooting

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday for a Davenport man shot by police Monday night. The investigation into the death of 54 year old James Cave is being handled by the Scott County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

According to Davenport police, around 7:15 pm Monday, officers responded to a call about someone who was threatening to kill himself - in the 28-hundred block of Fair Avenue. The caller, who was in the house, said the man was in the garage alone, waving guns around, and talking about wanting police to kill him.

Officers trained in negotiation talked with the man for about three hours. But Davenport  police say he began drinking alcohol and became more upset and irrational. When the man "advanced aggressively" toward the officers with a weapon in his hand and another in his waistband, they shot and killed him.
Four Davenport police officers are now on administrative leave, pending results of the investigation. Their names have not been released.
