Norris Announces Bid for Iowa Governor

John Norris

The latest democratic candidate for governor officially entered the race over the weekend. In his hometown of Red Oak, in southwest Iowa, John Norris launched his campaign, emphasizing his "Iowa values" against those of the Branstad and Reynolds administrations.

He currently works for a public policy firm, but in the past has worked as an aide for US Senator Tom Harkin, ran the Iowa campaign of Jesse Jackson for president in 1988, served as chair of the Iowa democratic party, and worked for Tom Vilsack when he served as governor and Secretary of Agriculture.

Following his announcement, Norris began a six-day tour of the state. On Wednesday, he's scheduled to stop in Iowa City, Fort Madison, and Burlington, then campaign in Davenport Thursday morning, followed by stops in DeWitt, Maquoketa, and Dubuque.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
