Non-Profit Celebrates 30 Years of Housing Support

HHSI

To celebrate 30 years of providing transitional housing to those in need, Humility Homes and Services held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday afternoon in Davenport at the building where it all started.
Ashley Velez says she's not just celebrating an anniversary. She's celebrating how HHSI has expanded to meet needs in the community.

"So, we went from serving about 10 individuals on the very first night we were open 30 years ago, to serving 250 now on any given night."

Velez says that across the state of Iowa, the average rate of success for people moving from transitional to permanent housing is 10%. Last year, Humility Homes and Services had a success rate of 39%.

Since the start of the pandemic, the non-profit has served nearly 700 homeless individuals and families. That's a 20% increase from this time last year.
