The Mississippi River is beginning to fall, but don't get your hopes up because it won't fall very much for at least a week.
The National Weather Service says the river has dropped more than one foot in Dubuque to 4.3 feet over flood stage since cresting on Saturday, but it's expected to go back up about three-quarters of a foot through next week.
The forecast for Clinton is nearly the same - it will drop about a foot through Friday, then hold at that level, about four feet over flood stage, for several days or longer.
At the Quad Cities, the Mississippi is just one-tenth of a foot lower since reaching a crest 5.6 feet over flood stage on Monday. It'll drop just half a foot or so then hold at 5 feet over flood stage for several days.
