New Leader for RDA

Riverboat Development Authority

A business consultant from the Quad Cities will be the next president and ceo of the Riverboat Development Authority. This afternoon, the board of directors chose Randy Rathje to replace Mary Ellen Chamberlain, who's retiring.

Board chair, Carol Sommer, says Rathje has a lot of good experience, including being involved in Davenport's recent unsuccessful effort to buy a casino.

Rathje worked for Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric until the merger formed MidAmerican Energy, then worked as a financial advisor and trust officer. Next he became chief financial officer for Lujack'sNorthpark Auto Plaza until it was sold, and has since worked as a business consultant.

Sommer says the RDA received 62 applications, and eventually narrowed the list to 3 finalists.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
