A new leader will soon take over First Army, based on Arsenal Island. Following confirmation by the US Senate, the Army has announced the choice of Major General Stephen Twitty, and promotion to Lieutenant General.
Twitty is currently serving as commanding general of the First Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas. And prior to that assignment, he served as the deputy chief of staff, for operations, training, and plans, for U.S. Army Forces Command.
Twitty will replace Lieutenant General Michael Tucker, who has served as commanding general of First Army since August of 2013, and is scheduled to retire this summer after 44 years of military service. A change of Command Ceremony is tentatively scheduled for July.
From its headquarters on Arsenal Island, First Army mobilizes, trains, deploys, and de-mobilizies all Army National Guard and Army Reserve units.
