With help from the city, some new housing may be built in Rock Island. Monday night, the city council will consider giving a small piece of land, next to the Jackson Square apartments, to the Rock Island Economic Growth Corporation.
Called the Garden District Development, it would be on the northwest corner of the Jackson Square property, in the 300-block of 24th Street, and close to the bridge to Arsenal Island.
Currently, the parcel is used for parking, but Growth proposes building seven town home, row home style single family units. It's also asking the city to contribute 25,000 dollars from the downtown tif district to the 1.5 million dollar project.
When they're completed, Growth estimates each unit will sell for 225,000 dollars.
