New Fire Chief for Davenport

City of Davenport

After a nationwide search, a member of the Davenport Fire Department will become its next chief. Tuesday City Administrator Corri Spiegel announced she's chosen Michael Carlsten.

Carlsten is a 24 year veteran of the department, including 11 years as a Chief Officer. He's also been in charge of the ISO evaluations, and has received special training in Hazardous Materials and Technical Rescue. He's an original member of the Davenport Fire Department Honor Guard and is well known as “Fire Santa” for holiday department related events.

Spiegel says Carlsten "has a proven track record in the management of fire service incidents and first responder initiatives, and extensive experience in negotiations, planning and project management."

Carlsten will begin his duties as Davenport Fire Chief on Thursday (5/10) with an annual salary of $119,000.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
