A year and-a-half after a popular Moline restaurant was destroyed by fire, construction will start soon to re-build it. Wednesday city and company officials broke ground for the new Captain’s Table, at Marquis Harbor.
Project General Manager Rob Egger says all the months of hard work were worth it, because he loves the location and says this area needs a good steak and seafood restaurant.
"When you put it all together - the combination of the location, the property, the building, the food and what we're doing, the marina being attached it it - it just had to happen."
The new Captain’s Table will cost about 2.2 million dollars, but when you add in new equipment and furnishings, and other spending, it’ll cost a total of about 3 million dollars.
It should be ready to re-open early next summer.
The one-story building, with 6,000 square feet, will have room for around 150 people, plus a large covered deck. A restaurant was first built on the site in the early 1960's, with an addition in the 1980's. Egger says it was closed for re-modeling when the fire broke out in January of last year.
