Even though the state budget is far from settled, the United Township school board is scheduled to take final action tonight on a new budget.
Superintendent Jay Morrow says the good news is that state aid for Illinois students in the coming year will go up - in recent years it had been pro-rated at 89 per cent of the authorized level (about $6,400), but this year will go up to 92 per cent.
The bad news though is that state support for transportation, special ed, and student lunches could be much less than what it's supposed to be.
For U-T, each of the four payments is about 700,000 dollars.
Doctor Morrow says U-T and the other Illinois school districts in this area have done a good job controlling their spending.
The overall budget for this year totals 21 million dollars, nearly the same as last year.
The board will also hear a report on graduation rates - Morrow says ten years ago it was just 80 per cent, but for the last four years in a row, the rate has topped 90 per cent. He says that's still not high enough, but a marked improvement from what it had been.
