New Budget for Rock Island County

With the new fiscal year just two weeks away, the Rock Island County board has finished work on a new budget. Tuesday night, it gave its final approval to spending about 75 million dollars in the coming year.

County Auditor, April Palmer, says reserve funds will be used to make up for a deficit of about 1 million dollars.
The property tax rate will go up slightly - from 9 cents per 1,000 dollars assessed value this year to 9.3 cents next year.
Some changes in the coming year include a cut in spending by the Sheriff's Department of 122,000 dollars, and an increase in spending of nearly the same amount for the salary and other costs of hiring a county administrator.

Rock Island County's new fiscal year begins on December lst.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
