The city of Rock Island may help the owner of the former Farmall plant with its latest development project. Monday night the city council will consider an agreement with LRC Developers, allowing it to use tif district revenue to fix up an old building.
LRC President Scott Christiansen says he's looking at possible options for a four story building next to the MetroLink facility - one is to open a small business incubator.
"I see our chances for growth on this side of the river as kind of organic growth as new businesses, new startups, entrepeneurs looking to take a chance and start a small business. And if we can assist with low cost rent, good location I believe, and easy acccess to the bridge."
Now known as the Quad City Industrial Center, the Farmall plant closed in 1985, and LRC bought the property in 1986. Since then the former factory has been used for warehousing and distribution. New buildings include MetroLink and Hill and Valley Premium Bakery.
Christiansen says the property now includes about 12 acres of vacant land, and possibilities for that include a large solar project, light manufacturing, and other small businesses.
