The Moline–Coal Valley school board plans to decide Wednesday night who will become the school district's next superintendent.
The board's seven members are scheduled to go into a special closed-session meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the Moline High School Coolidge Campus, where they will conduct the third of three candidate interviews before deliberating on a hire.
Board president Kate Schaefer says the board's intent is to reach a unanimous agreement Wednesday. However, she said a public announcement might not be made until January 14, pending an offer review by the selected candidate.
Schaefer would not say which of the three candidates remains to be interviewed for Wednesday's meeting.
The board has been conducting the final round of interviews this week with the three finalists.
One is an internal candidate currently employed by the district: Washington Elementary School (Moline) Principal Bryan Prybil.
The two remaining finalists are both administrators outside of the Quad Cities area: Kelley Anne Gallt, who is Chief Academic Officer at St. Charles Community Unit School District in the Chicago suburb of St. Charles, Ill., and Rachel Savage, who is Head Principal of the Waterloo Community School District in Waterloo, Iowa.
The selected finalist would need only a simple majority—four of the board's seven votes—to be hired. However, Schaeffer says the board will try to come to a unanimous agreement before making an offer.
He or she will succeed retiring superintendent Lanty McGuire on July 1, 2019.
